Athlete spot light: Derek Redmond

1992 Summer Olympics: Barcelona

In the summer of 1992 British Athlete Derek Redmond was competing in the 400 meters semi-final race. Derek started strong, but at the 250 meter mark his hamstring snapped. What he did next, is the definition of being strong and understanding the act of finishing is greater than winning.  After coming to halt due to pure pain, Derek made a choice that defined his life. Derek got up from the ground and hobbled his way to the finish line. His father Jim Redmond rushed to the aid of his son, as they finish the race together.
